The Mystery of Prayer

2037) As a teen, when I wasn’t going anywhere with friends, I would settle in for the evening in my room, listening to the radio and thinking. My mind wandered far and wide.

My thoughts often included God and things I had read and heard at the Christian school I attended and at church. When I considered the topic of prayer, it was simple to me. I might as well tell God everything, since he already knows it.

As I matured, I’d read verses like Matthew 6:5-8, and wonder why I should pray when God already knows everything? I didn’t understand the mystery of prayer.

As I grew older, I realized the mystery doesn’t lie in the I should pray idea. Instead, I think it lies in the fact that God wants me to talk with him about everything, in spite of his knowing these things already.

Just think. The God of all the universe wants to sit down with you and talk. Why don’t you take him up on it?
