No Captives with God

1960) The God of the Bible differs greatly from the description and labeling the world has made for him. He never imposes his will; he takes no one captive. God made a choice in loving us and we make a choice of loving him. How do I know this? John 8:32 answers this question.

This verse simply says you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.

Dissecting the verse in the Greek, we find that “know” means to come to recognize. The word truth can be found (and should be found) in any matter under consideration and this word, free means to liberate. God does not make his children captives; we have done that to ourselves.

When we come to recognize the Truth and all our limited mind can understand, it liberates us. The picture I see in my head is a millstone around my neck and God taking it off.

When people think following God means a dictatorship; they don’t know the Truth.
