1940) We live in a day of grace. That’s a difficult swallow if you’re someone who has grown up in the church. Why? Because the teachings of following God’s laws and instructions were at the top of what many churches emphasize.
Is this emphasis wrong? I don’t think it has to be. What may be a drawback, though, of this indoctrination is found in John 14:15. Here, Jesus simply says, if we love God, we will keep his commands.
I think it’s significant to notice the motivation Jesus gives us here. He did not say, You’d better keep my commands or else. Instead, he simply said love should be the motivator for doing what God commands and not because of fear.
This understanding can change the way we approach God’s word and live our lives.
