Just a Little While Longer

1742) There are a few things that I struggle with spiritually. One of them is the fact that in this life, things are difficult–sometimes even evil. When I see or experience things that fit in this category, it’s awful easy to cross my arms and have a chat with God about them in an accusatory manner.

Why don’t you destroy those who blatantly oppose your word? Why do you allow so much pain and suffering? You want us to come to you regularly in prayer, so why does this sometimes seem like a one-sided conversation? I could list more.

One answer to these questions is found in John 18:36. Here, Jesus says his kingdom is not of this world. Let’s think about this. If Jesus was not going to rule while his human feet walked the earth then, he too, could have experienced some of these feelings.

Why must I walk the earth as King of Kings but not rule now? Why did I heal many people but not all? I watch my followers struggle with faith when they do not see me face to face.

Jesus may not have thought or felt any of the above, but the answer to his “questions” are, Wait, just a little longer. My kingdom is not of this world, but I will rule one day. I will heal all my children, one day. I will one day serve ultimate justice. I will have conversations with my children, face-to-face, one day.

As some have repeated recently, “soon” for God is an eternal reference, but a reliable one. God will have a face-to-face relationship with you soon, so hang on just a little longer.
