1740) All the choices we make reflect the things we value. If we choose to go on a vacation to a warm location, we may value an easy-going atmosphere. If we choose to support specific political ideology, it’s typically because the person’s priorities and/or values reflect ours.
Of all the choices we make in life, the most important one is whether we follow God and his Word. This decision, too, reflects what we value because our motivations also come into play.
If we obey God simply because we are afraid not to, we miss out on the “new wine” Jesus taught. His wine comprises love and not fear; a relationship of grace and joy. (My burden is easy and my yoke is light. Matthew 11:28-30)
John 14:15 tells us If you love me, you will keep my commandments. We desire to do what God tells us because we are so grateful for the relationship he established with us because of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
It’s no wonder Paul said, The greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13
