Wait a Minute!

1736) Waiting is difficult for children. For them, Christmas is something that is far, far in the distance, but adults know how quickly it comes each year. But waiting isn’t just difficult for kids, it can be for adults, too.

Psalm 27:14 is one of many verses that admonishes us to wait on the Lord. This word, wait, in the original Hebrew, reflects “lying in wait” for him. This is a focused and vigilant wait that occurs with the certainty of something to come.

I had a dog once who spotted a mouse in a small camp and he literally waited by the stove for two hours. When the mouse finally showed up, the dog got him. This is the anticipation God is encouraging us to have when it comes to things about himself.

If God promises us something in his word, we are to wait with anticipation, showing the faith that even if it hasn’t happened yet, by faith we wait for God to keep his word.

Waiting can be difficult, but we are instructed to do it.
