1732) There is a verse that is simply stated and yet very difficult to understand.
Proverbs 21:3 tells us doing righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
Why do I think this is difficult? Because, weren’t the people of the Bible asked to give sacrifices for the forgiveness of sins? Then why does this verse say righteousness and justice are more acceptable?
The word for acceptable in the Hebrew is bachar which means divine choice. Could this mean that making sacrifices to God might be easier than choosing to act in righteousness and justice?
Sacrifices, as we know them, are things we give up for God and others, but doing righteous and just things are things we must do. Both important and yet, one more difficult than the other.
