Name Calling

1682) Have you ever considered that the name you are called is important? It is a representation of who you are. Yes, there are others who carry the same name, but in this sense, it communicates your individuality.

The same is true when others, and even yourself, give different names or labels to you. It is an unspoken understanding that this descriptor is who you are. Unfortunately, the name givers don’t always see things as they are or are too quick to judge.

Isaiah 43:1 reminds us God has redeemed us and called us by name. In his case, it doesn’t matter if this is referring to your given name or to your characteristics. He sees us as we are. Someone who is valuable enough to die for. Someone who makes mistakes or bad choices. Someone who has suffered mistreatment or who take part in the mistreatment of others.

Even in all of this, the names God calls us are always accurate and gracious.
