The Power of Mercy

1676) I have often thought rules were the most important things. If there’s something I’m supposed to do, then failure to do them is sin. This is true, but my question is, how does mercy fit into this?

Mercy, simply defined, is not getting a punishment or judgment I deserve. This does not mean what I did is ok, rather, it means despite what I did; I am forgiven.

This is where I have many questions. If I know I can be forgiven for the things I choose to do wrong, doesn’t that mean I will “take advantage” of this mercy and grace? Perhaps, but James 2:13 tells us clearly that mercy triumphs over judgment. How so?

The blood of Jesus’ substitute death has soaked any judgment we deserve, and if I understand this cost (as much as humans can), I will walk the path God has placed before me in his word. I’ll want to live by his instructions, but when I fail, mercy prevails.

Mercy is powerful.
