Seeing vs. Hearing

1660) Every year in my classroom, there is at least one young scholar who loves to talk. This is not simply the occasional comment or question. Instead, all they do is talk about anything and everything, even if their words have nothing to do with what we are tackling in class.

It’s the same with some adults. Some always have something to comment on or say. You name the subject, these adults delight us with a running commentary of everything they know (or don’t know) about the subject.

Considering this, I find what Jesus said in Matthew 5:16 important. He said for us to “let our light shine before others.” I know, among other things, Jesus was contrasting the light with darkness, deeds done for God or man, and I realize this light is something others see, not hear.

No, I don’t think God’s children should be quiet about everything because we are commanded to spread the “Good News” to others, but I’m saying what we do (or don’t do) speaks loudest of all.

Are others hearing you or seeing you?
