1642) If you’ve ever been seriously ill (or even just sick), you most likely will cry out to God for healing. This is biblical. Throughout the Bible, we’re admonished to bring our needs to God. Philippians 4:6-7 But what about the verses in the Bible that promise healing? Jeremiah 17:14–“Heal me, oh Lord, and I shall be healed.” Does this mean that when I am ill, all I have to do is cry out to God and he will heal me? The answer is yes and no.
Yes, God can heal any disease at any time, and he has done this. The answer can also be “No”. When you or a loved one is suffering with a disease/illness and God does not heal, it’s easy to think God is not keeping his word. These thoughts have caused a struggle within my heart more than once, but God has been teaching me there are two types of healing.
One is a healing of the body, but there is also a healing of the mind and feelings. These do not have to result in physical healing. It has also occurred to me that these difficulties can produce a lot of good in this life, which can lead to an ultimate healing.
Struggling with illness and disease is a real battle and God will move on our behalf in a direction that is for our good, whether we embrace or resent it. Thank God!
