1641) What is it that often catches people’s attention on social media, in the news and on the stage of life? It’s the ugly parts of this world. What so-and-so is doing and whose marriages are failing.
Why do we often fall into the trap of being obsessed (or even mildly interested) with these sorts of things? I’m sure the answer is complicated, but one I can think of is that in the listening and telling of these things, it gives us a mild superior boost; it’s almost as if we crave to feel better about ourselves and this might be one way to do it.
The problem with this thinking is found in Proverbs 11:13. Here it tells us the trustworthy of God keeps these sorts of things to themselves.
Is this easy? No, but you never make yourself look good by making others look bad.
