Kissing Your Mama

1632) There is a lot to be said about how we use our words. Why? Because, as

Matthew 12:36-37 tells us, we can use our words to be justified (I believe this to mean asking for salvation) or condemned (not asking, among other things).

When at school, my young scholars are not allowed to use certain language, and mostly, they don’t. Yet, when I intercept some notes or they show me something on social media, I am sometimes stunned that these same kids who are loving and respectful use some of the language they do. It reminds me of the old question, “You say those sort of things and kiss your mama with the same mouth?”

Jesus warns us here to not use our words carelessly. If I could slow down enough to evaluate everything I say, I wouldn’t utter a lot of it. Perhaps it’s a good thing to think about when we’re kissing our mamas or other loved ones.
