1570) There is a fact of life I have not addressed in my minute devotions very often and that is, we all have enemies. For some, this may not be a distressing thing. You straighten your shoulders and say, That’s their problem. It isn’t as easy for me. I struggle with the fact that I have enemies or people who are irritated with me and who I am. I wish I didn’t. Jesus himself had enemies, so I should realize it’s just the way things are.
When I have enemies, and I believe there are times in our lives when we are more aware of this than others, remembering the familiar words of Psalm 23:4 may be helpful. The first part of it says, You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
When someone who really dislikes me sees God honoring me, it throws them off balance. If God is honoring me with a new book contract, a successful school newspaper or a nice home, those who are my enemies have to take a step back from their judgment. The things I receive from God are an undeniable visual of the grace and love he has given me.
We may never be able to change the thinking of someone who dislikes us. That’s okay. We don’t need to. God’s got us in his hand!
