1520) As the holiday season approaches, there is the anticipation of “doing things differently” for a few days out of the year. You do not go through your daily routines. Instead, you may get your house ready for company, get food bought and cooked and more. The bottom line is, if you’re hosting family gatherings, you don’t want your company to come before everything is ready.
Jesus tells us the same sort of thing in John 14:1-3. Here he tells his children to trust him. He is getting their places in heaven ready for them and will get each person when everything is ready and not before.
Death is such a difficult thing to deal with on this earth, but it’s good to be reminded that God is in control in the timing of it. Ultimately, death can be a painful help when there’s suffering involved. On the other hand, living life another day under an abundance of pain takes faith, as Jesus said in verse 1, trust him that he keeps his word, specifically when he welcomes his children only when everything is ready.
This kind of trust is difficult.
