1494) I have a friend who is crazy about lighthouses. She has all sorts of them throughout her house. She even travels great distances sometimes to see them.

Lighthouses are fascinating. If you live on the coast as I do, fog is a frequent visitor. The lighthouses are there to help guide ships and boats away from danger.

These thoughts came to me as I read a short section of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount where he mentioned that God’s followers are to be lights to the world. The meaning behind this is similar to taking on the function of a lighthouse. Matthew 5:13-16.

The thing that has struck me in a way I hadn’t considered is, what if a lighthouse is faulty and guides boats into danger instead of away from it? Can we not do the same thing with the way we live, talk, work and more?

I don’t want to be a faulty lighthouse. I want my shining light to be a help and not a hindrance.
