Momentum

1452) Do you have a list of things you know you should do but you just can’t quite bring yourself to do them? I know I do. When I think of trying to build in better habits in my life, I see weeks and weeks ahead of fighting within myself to keep doing whatever I know I should be doing. Endurance is hard when you look at the long run. Perhaps there’s a better way.

Paul tells us in Romans 5:3-4 how to get traction in our spiritual lives. He says when we run into a problem, decide in the moment to rejoice because this problem is an opportunity to build traction. Why? Because Paul tells us difficulties build endurance and endurance develops our strength of character. Living by God’s standards is a picture of what life in the next world will be like when we live with him.

Perhaps I need a better way to get traction in my life. Maybe I need to focus on what I do and say today and when the sun comes up again tomorrow, focus on that day. One day at a time is less over-whelming and discouraging.
