1425) Everything within my being yearns for predictability. In fact, those who know me well know I rarely vary things in my life. I get up at the same time; I follow my writing and teaching schedule consistently, and I usually order the same foods when out for a meal. I get teased for this, but predictability is so important to me; I let these comments go in one ear and out the other.
There is a problem with this, however, and that is life is often unpredictable. Things disrupt my routine and it always throws me. I know I should predict things will shift, but oddly enough, I don’t do this very well.
Thank goodness there are things which are predictable and we find some in Hebrews 13:8. It shouts out to me that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He will always do the same things, such as love and accept me. He will always say the same things. I go and prepare a place for you (John 14:3). He is always there.
The desire for predictability is natural and, thank God, he provides it for us.
