An Anatomy of the Truth

1320) If you were to study about truth, you would think it would be pretty straight-forward. Something is either true, or it’s not; it cannot be both. Having stated this, we live in a society who believes in what many call, “versions of the truth”. Man is the one who decides if something is true or not., depending on his point-of-view, values, culture, etc. This is where we get into murky waters. Why? Because people do not like it when someone dictates for them what is true and what is not. It is also interesting that many have bought into the idea, “what’s true for you, does not have to be true for me.” This thinking, if taken to its fullest extent, would allow for any behavior to be justified.

Another thing I think makes understanding truth difficult is that opinion gets mixed into the definition of truth when opinion is a judgment drawing a conclusion on a specific topic or thing. Our own experiences and observations influence these judgments, which may encompass truth or may not.

Fortunately, the Bible is clear on what is truth. First, it tells us Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6). This means anything Jesus has stated is true; and anything he modeled and commanded is also true. It is not sort of true, opinionated true or half-true. Second, In Titus 1:2, Paul tells us God does not lie. So, whatever God has said, modeled, or commanded is true, as well.

It may seem so restricting for us to believe, by faith, that God does not lie to us but, really, it’s very comforting. Knowing that God’s truth gives us boundaries makes us feel secure because he will always lead us with our best interests in mind. Wavering back and forth in insecurity is unnecessary when you can trust God is telling us the truth. Always.

Isn’t biblical Truth better?
