1309) There is a deadly “disease” that lurks in the shadows. Many people have it and don’t know. Some identify the disease in others but don’t diagnose it in themselves. This disease is slander.
Slander may start out as an interesting negative tidbit about a person that is shared with another. This negative information often has a subtle underlying of bitterness. If you’ve ever been the object of such information, you know how contagious the symptoms of this disease can be. But there’s something else to consider.
In 2 Timothy 3:3, Paul uses the original Greek word, diabolos, for slander. This word is also the same word used in the Bible for Satan. When God, through Paul, equates slander with Satan, it is significant. Satan is also The Father of Lies. (John 8:44).
With this knowledge comes responsibility. We now know slander is part of who Satan is, he’s the Father of Lies and God will throw him into the Lake of Fire. (Revelation 20:10).
Paul tells us that in the last days, slander will be prevalent. It is a serious disease, and we must guard against it.
