1307) It’s common for people to research their family trees and even delve into genetic testing for multiple reasons. Many find the need to discover who they are in relationship to family patterns and more. After all, families are supposed to be the place where you feel loved, accepted and supported. We all have the desire for these things.
Because of this, 2 Timothy 3:3 is important to note. In previous verses, we remember Paul is speaking about what the world will be like in the last days. In verse three, we see that in these times, people will be unloving. This does not surprise me because the whole idea of self-obsession can be readily seen in society but, I looked into the original meaning behind what some versions of the Bible translate into unloving and I discovered something important.
The Greek word used here is astorgos. The origin of this word is without family affection. What Paul is predicting to happen in the last days will be a lack of familial affection and support. The family unit and all it involves will break down. There will be turmoil, arguing, blaming, rejection, anger and any other things a family is supposed to provide, but won’t. or can’t.
When the family unit breaks down, so will society because it is the foundation of how we exist within the world we live.
Protect your families and cherish them. There is so much to lose when you don’t.
