Get Dressed: Bearing Up

1220) The older I get, the harder it is to wear the garment of patience. From what I have observed, this seems to be true with most people. Because of this, I have to ask myself why? Perhaps we just tire quickly so when people do annoying things, it’s hard to bite your tongue and leave things be. I recognize that many confrontations are a result of impatience.

Paul tells us to put on the garment of patience in Colossians 3:12-14. Let’s consider the meaning of the word patience. It means that you are choosing to put a gap of time between the thing that happened and your negative reaction. Doing so helps keep your anger (or even your annoyance) in check so it’s not action – reaction. The garment of patience is a heavy one but it’s worth the strain and endurance that it produces.
