I love to read the local newspapers; I have for years. I like to know what’s going on in the area in which I live and be up-to-date on what our local officials are doing. However, the reading of my newspapers (and even my newsfeeds online) can be disheartening. It seems there are so many crimes listed there.
There is one crime, however, that specifically gets my attention and that is when there is a murder. I think it’s because I know the consequences are eternal. Once someone is dead, that’s all there is for them in this world. There will be no more opportunities to contribute positively to society; to make things right with others and to love those who have been a part of their lives.
I can sit back from my paper and think, I am so glad I am not a murderer, but I am.
Why? Because anger is the seed of the action. Though it sidesteps legal consequences, Jesus said the thought is as bad as the deed. My feelings and treatment of others grow from my thoughts. I am no different from the murderers I read about.
The good news is, God has pardoned me for murder. I am free, with a clean record.
I need to make my best effort to go and sin no more. Matthew 5:22
