1192) I’m not fond of secrets. I think it’s because many of them are a foundation of distrust, deceit, vanity, and shame. Anytime I have discovered this type of secret, it has taken a piece of my heart and shattered it.
Most families have skeletons in their closets. Jesus’ earthy family did, too. They included Tamar’s rape by her half-brother; Ruth, who in her desperation, gets a husband; Rahab, who was a prostitute, and Bathsheba, an unfaithful wife whose husband was murdered because of it. These women had questionable histories.
I don’t think it’s a reasonable conclusion that we should air all of our secrets publicly, though many come out eventually. Instead, it would be useful to realize God can take the vilest things and make them good in our lives, if we let him.
Remember, we might be able to keep secrets from others, but we cannot keep them from God. Matthew 1:3, 5-6
