1160) We used to watch sports on television when we were growing up. One thing that would come on from time to time was weight-lifting. I was always amazed at how much a person could lift. I even saw the bar the weights were on was straining under it all.
This is the image I think of when I hear or read the admonition, ‘Be Strong’. I picture the difficulties referred to in the moment and often sense that straining bar attempting to hold the weight.
There are times we can lift the weights that come our way, but there are also times when it’s just not possible. Understanding when I can and should lift and when I can’t are important.
For the times I cannot be strong, I need to remember God promises to help me if I will just ask him.
Asking for help is not a weakness; it is a strength.
Be strong, dependently. Isaiah 12:2
