1127) Trying to understand the essence of God is impossible. Think about this. God says he is all-powerful, all-knowing, everywhere at once, and has always existed. These things are just a tiny aspect of who God is. No wonder we humans have a hard time comprehending him.

There are some things we can understand about God and they include some implications of the things I’ve just listed. What do I mean? Well, if God is all-powerful, then he could use his power to make my life trouble-free. What this really boils down to is, if God is all-powerful, how can he allow the horrible things that happen on this earth? Is God good?

To fully answer this question, we’d have to have unlimited abilities to understand but I think we can consider this adequately.

I can look back on my life and think through all the ups and downs I’ve had. When I think of the good that has happened, I can definitely conclude God is good. But, as I contemplate the bad, heart-breaking, and unfair things that have happened, I can also conclude God is good. Why? Because without these things happening in my life, I would not be the person I am today. These difficulties have made me a better person.

A childhood prayer says, “God is great; God is good”. Often, we do not struggle with the great part, but the good part is sometimes hard to believe.

All that comes our way, God makes good because He IS good. This is great. Psalm 13:6
