Who’s Your Partner? Coarseness

1079) My students just amaze me in so many ways. The things they’ll say, write, or do, good and bad, will often blow my mind. Sometimes they are a harsh reminder that I am no longer young! Sigh. A good example of this is when we occasionally play limbo. When I watch kids literally look like they are hinged backward as they easily move under the thick dowel I use, I just shake my head. I am amazed at how low some kids can get.

In Ephesians 5:3-7, Paul tells Christians not to partner with coarseness. This word can mean low, as in low joking. Some entertainers that I think are so funny naturally just sink to such low depths to get more laughs.

Lowering ourselves rarely gives us the respect of others. They may laugh and give us the response we want, but most will not hold a respect for us. Being coarse is easy, but being yoked with it will bring results that aren’t.
