Playing Favorites

962) As a teacher of middle school, I often have kids ask me who in their class is my favorite. I always smile and say that I like everyone the same, but you and I both know that this is not the truth. We are all drawn to certain people more than others. It may be a parent that “clicks” better with one of his/her children. Maybe there’s one specific family member or friend that you are especially fond of. These relationships are understandable, but what if you are the student, child, family member or friend that is not the favorite? It’s not such a pleasant feeling, is it?

In Acts 10:34-35, we find out some good news when considering God and his playing favorites. He does not. He loves and likes all equally. There are some people who would look at this as a negative. After all, if God favors everyone the same, what makes me so special? But another way of looking at it is that each person doesn’t need to be jealous of another’s relationship with God because you are just as important to him as anyone else. This is mind-boggling.

If you think you are only one of many that God loves, you are right, but he would have sent his son to die, even if it was only for you.
