958) There have been so many times in the Bible when God has chosen the least unlikely to do the greatest things. Brothers throw a boy into a well and sell him as a slave. This same boy saves the known world during a time of great famine. (Joseph) A young boy who kills a giant whom no one would fight. (David) A woman with a jaded past causes a large group of people to follow Jesus. (The woman at the well.) A man who is violent and determined to destroy the early church. (Saul)
In Acts 9:13-16, a man named Ananias is instructed by the Lord to go to Saul and minister to him. He is hesitant because he knows Saul’s reputation. Ananias must have been surprised when the Lord tells him of the great things this onetime enemy of Christianity will do.
God loves to use the most unlikely, even in modern times. There’s the poor, humble woman who did tremendous work among the most destitute. (Mother Teresa) The humble man who preached salvation most of his life. (Billy Graham) A shy, depressed and troubled man who fought tirelessly to emancipate the slaves. (Abraham Lincoln) The elderly women who spend multiple hours praying for those around them. These people have been and are now used by God.
Why does God use such unlikely people? One reason is that in doing so, God makes it obvious that he is the force behind the great work. Have you ever considered that you might be the most unlikely too? Find out what God wants to do through you.
