A Beautiful Thing

889) It’s really easy to forget (at least for me) that in using the gifts and abilities I have been given, I can do them as an act of worship. I get caught up in, this is my job, this is my responsibility and other such ideas when, maybe, I need to remind myself that I can do something solely as a gift I give back to God. This might be a strange idea for some people.

In Mark 14:1-11, a woman spends a year’s worth of earning to buy perfume and she pours it over Jesus’ head, honoring Him in a cultural way in those times. There were people present that didn’t understand why she did this, and even protest it, but that doesn’t stop her. She gives Jesus a beautiful gift, not because it is her job, not because it’s her responsibility, solely because she wanted to honor Him. Gifts of this nature are a beautiful thing.
