Salt or Vinegar

882) There is a trend of selling snacks with limited salt. This is because we know that too much of it is not good for your body. Thinking about this, I started “tasting” in my mind my favorite snack, popcorn, without salt. Yuck! To think of eating popcorn without it takes away most of the pleasure for me.

In Mark 9:50, Jesus makes a similar observation. He says that salt that has lost its saltiness is useless. This is coming after having called his followers the salt of the earth. (Matthew 5:13). Salt distinguishes itself, making the bland better. Notice that Jesus did not call His followers the vinegar of the earth. He wants his followers to make things better, not to sour everything. Salt is an important ingredient. How salty are you?
