Satisfaction

857) Having taught teenagers for so many years, I know for a fact that a sign of immaturity is when someone wants something and they want it now. For example, a car. Many teenaged boys dream of a car or truck they would like and they want it on the exact day they can drive legally. I don’t think this desire is wrong, but it speaks to priorities. We make time and money for things we value and this can grow character in a teen as they learn to save up for things they want. But, as someone with more life experience knows, things only bring satisfaction for a time and then you need something else to give you that feeling you had when you got something you wanted.

In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus warns not to be obsessed with or continually strive for things of this life. After all, things of this earth will break, crack, lose their appeal or they can even be stolen. Jesus reminds us that these things will not transfer with us into the next life, so, therefore, putting too much value on temporary satisfaction is not prudent.

It’s important to remember that things on this earth are temporary. This should help us with our priorities.
