787) Sometimes a person has the opportunity of helping someone by making suggestions of another way of thinking or acting and, most of the time, this is when the listener asks for your input. Unfortunately, it’s rare for another to ask this of us.

There are many times, however, when giving our input, thoughts, feelings, beliefs, or opinions are a waste of time. Proverbs 9:7-9 confirms this by stating (in a loose translation), don’t waste your time. Rarely can we convince someone to adopt our view of the world, and often, in trying to accomplish this, we are actually pushing someone further away from our point of view. It takes wisdom and discernment to know when to speak up and when to shut up.
