A Taste Test

771) My all-time favorite author is Jan Karon. Her Mitford novels not only delight me but also strengthen my faith. In one of her books, the local Episcopalian priest attends a town-wide carnival. There is a petting zoo and a little girl stands at the fence watching the animals longingly, but she’s too afraid to go in and pet them. Father Tim tells her he will go in for her and pet whichever animals for her. It’s a beautiful scene. Even though this vignette is moving,

Psalm 34:8 reminds us that there are some things others cannot do for us. The verse reads, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” (NIV) God wants us to taste Him, explore and find out for ourselves that God is good.

No one else can make this taste test for you. Taste.
