The Responsibilities of Being a Leader

721) Each school year there comes a time when my students weary of the routines we must have in my classroom. Even though, I rearrange and package these things differently, some have the idea if they were the teacher, it would be so much better. A few times, I have turned over the reins to the kids and let them experience what leadership is like. There have been a few kids who handled this leadership well, but there have also been many who found out quickly that leadership carries tremendous responsibilities.

In  2 Samuel 23:3-4, King David is coming to the end of his life. He shares a few things that have made his reign successful and one of them is that his decisions and actions were righteous ones. Righteous simply means right-ness. Anytime someone lives by the statutes God gives will have an improved life. A leader such as this is, according to verse 4, like the light of a sunrise and of the sun after the rain.

Being a leader (vocationally, in the home, at church and more) is an enormous responsibility. In fact, James 3:1 states that teachers have a special accountability. A leader can inspire many great things or they can permanently destroy. Leadership carries great power; what kind of power will it be?
