Freedom Comes in Different Packages

720) Throughout world history, there have been and are multiple times when one group of people enslaves another. There is no valid excuse for this and we would be so much better off without it. In light of this, have you considered that there are other types of slavery? How about the slavery of emotions? Has there been someone who has enslaved how you feel about yourself and belittled you to where you can’t fight anymore? Has someone enslaved you mentally, so that thoughts and ideas of your own are overshadowed and choked out? How about spiritual slavery? Have you been vulnerable to legalistic Christianity that makes the captive feel they are righteous but there is no freedom?

2 Samuel 22:48-49 reminds us that God gives freedom and here, specifically, David says that God set him free from his enemies. Yes, God delivered David physically, specifically from his enemies, but have you considered that even with this freedom David still had enemies that hated him, enemies that attacked him and enemies that thought nothing of God? How is this possible? Because freedom isn’t a one-time thing; freedom must be renewed day-by-day and it comes in different packages.

Do you wish to be free physically? Emotionally? Mentally? Spiritually? If so, recognize that God is the Emancipator, and He gives freedom by allowing you to “know the truth and (that) truth will set you free.” (John 8:32). Freedom is a gift offered to you. It becomes yours only when you accept it.
