Enemy Tactics

710) If enemies hear of your success, it’s an uncomfortable moment for them. Why? Because if they are true adversaries, they do not want you to succeed, be blessed, or have anything good. What can you do about this result? The hard fact is that you can’t do much about it because you cannot control other people and what they think, feel or choose. However, there are things you can know and recognize.

In 2 Samuel 5:17, David has just been anointed King of Israel and he has a dark and formidable enemy; one he made when he was a boy and killed their champion, Goliath. This enemy was the Philistines. Though David could not control what that mighty enemy would do, he is aware of several things. One, that he has the Philistines as an enemy. Knowing they exist is helpful for David in his thought and reactions. Second, David knows he needs God’s guidance on what he may or may not need to do concerning this enemy. Finally, David can make sure he remembers any history he has had with his enemies because even though they are loved by God and worthy of His mercy and grace, it is wise for David to use caution in dealing with them in the future. Enemy tactics exist so it’s prudent to recognize them and act accordingly.
