686) If you have heard someone say that a person should not question God either in words or actions, perhaps it’s time to reevaluate this. I’m not thinking it’s wrong to bring up these types of things with God it’s more of what your motivation is. For example, I tell my students that if they question something I have told them or are bothered by something I did, they can come to me with these things. I then tell them that what’s really important is how they ask me. I then follow up and tell them that as they learn to trust me, the less they will feel they need to do this.
In Deuteronomy 4:40, God is telling His people something similar. He tells them to keep His commands and the result will be a life that has less conflict and distress. I also see an underlining “permission” to test God’s words. Live a life that is based upon God’s blueprint for our lives and see if we do have a better life. Does this mean that all of our lives are going to be wonderful? No. What it means is, no matter what comes our way, if we choose to do what we know is right, in the long run, it will cause us fewer problems and we can thank God for recognizing this in our lives. Are you a skeptic? Try out the words of Deuteronomy 4:40 and see for yourself if your life is better for it.
