633) In a lot of ways, rules work for me. I know or am taught what the rules are and I do my best to keep them and this allows me to measure how well I am living for God. The best Biblical example of these rules are the 10 Commandments. The problem with this is that I will never be able to keep all the rules and unless I change my spiritual focus, when I compare my actions to God’s rules, I will always be inadequate. Fortunately, Jesus, One Who kept all the rules, died in my place. Now, I don’t need to spend all my energy worried because I cannot live up to the standards of God’s rules. Galatians 3:11 tells us that we need faith to live by grace; grace being that I will not be condemned for not keeping the rules. It can be hard to trust that Jesus’ death is all I need. What I do for God, out of gratitude, is not the same as striving to keep rules I cannot keep. Grace is better.
