What It Doesn’t Say

2054) I had the privilege of growing up in the church and a Christian school. I have a much wider knowledge about what the Bible says.

Because of this, I often look for different ways of thinking about common verses.

For example, Ephesians 4:31 tells us to let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

This is a familiar verse and in looking closer, I notice the verse does not say to stop all your feelings of bitterness, wrath and anger. I think this is an important distinction.

While Paul says we need to make the choice to “put away” these things, the Greek tells us this is an active choice. It’s also not a choice that only needs to be made once.

Feelings come and go. They are often strong and overbearing, yet we have a choice to act upon them or not.

Choice is important.
