I Allow, But

2050) When I observe the pocket of mankind I am exposed to, I find there is a familiar reason (and sometimes excuse) people have for not becoming a child of God.

This line can be slightly different in wording, but in essence it is: How could a good God allow such horrible things on the face of this earth?

I think this is a valid question whose answer is a difficult swallow.

There are many places in the Bible where this issue is addressed. 1 Corinthians 10:13, for example.

Yet, with verses such as this one about why God allows temptations, there is a difficult truth to swallow: God allows it.

This next question is understandable, and that’s why? I think the answer is often relationship related. What do I mean?

God allows us to be hungry, but he feeds us. (Matthew 6:25)

God allows people to take advantage of us, but he protects us. (Proverbs 14:26)

God allows situations that cause anxiety, but he upholds us. (Isaiah 41:10)

God allows illnesses, but he heals. (Matthew 8:16)

God allows death, but he will resurrect his children one day. (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

Learning to accept what God allows is what faith is made up of. It’s possible because of the “but”.
