Death and Life

2010) We are both murderers and healers. Why do I say this? Because of Proverbs 18:21.

In this verse, we are reminded that the words we say can bring death to others (and ourselves). The word death can be translated to “separation”. Our words can separate us from others. They can separate the ones who hear our words from others. And most importantly, our words can separate others from God. This is disturbing for me because I often say things I shouldn’t.

Our words can also bring life and healing to others. A word spoken here or there can be a lifeline for someone and we may never know about it.

Because we don’t often see the results of what we say, we need to have a checkup with God regularly to see what we can rejoice in and what we need to repair.
