1968) I have a book that is quite unique. It contains the last words famous people have said before they died. It sounds somewhat gruesome, but it’s actually quite interesting.
As I thought about the last words people said, it makes my mind also go in the opposite direction. John 20:19 reveals the first thing Jesus said to his disciples after his resurrection. He tells them, Peace be with you.
I’ve wondered why Jesus said this instead of something else, but some of the possibilities might be because after witnessing Jesus’ crucifixion and death, they needed some peace. Perhaps they might be frighten seeing someone just “appear” before them. I don’t know, but I do know something. Jesus wants his followers to be at peace.
Peace is one of the Fruits of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23 and Isaiah called Jesus the Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
It’s clear Jesus longs to give us the gift of peace. It requires faith to accept it.
