Thieves

1962) Before we moved to Maine, each summer we had off from teaching, we’d come up here and work on getting our future homestead ready for our eventual move. Though our acreage was (and is) beautiful, it is on the remote side and thieves broke into our buildings three times.

If you’ve ever been broken into, you know the feeling is very disconcerting. You are reminded of the vulnerability you have in this life and there are thieves who are more than willing to steal and destroy anything you have.

In John 10:10, Jesus reminds us there are spiritual thieves, too, and you need to be aware of them. These thieves offer wealth, prestige and satisfaction and if you choose to partake of these, it’s like willingly accepting something stolen from God’s offer of salvation and becoming a type of accomplice.

Jesus’ gift of salvation isn’t a scam, and it can’t be stolen. The nature of a gift means it can only be accepted.
