A Word, Please

1957) From childhood, many of us learned our words are important. We’re told to be careful what we say. That’s hard to do considering a statistic I read recently. It claims men speak 7,000 words a day and women, 20,000. (I have my doubts about this because many of the men I know talk continually).

Words are the foundation of life. It’s how we communicate, work and love. Yes, actions are also important, but what we say can make our (and probably many others) life better or worse.

In thinking about this, John 1:1 catches my eye. John tells us in the beginning, there was a Word and this Word was with God and was God. I understand this to mean that God himself is the ultimate communicator and the creator of it.

Because God made us in his image, we should remember our words have power. We should be mindful of what they can create, good or bad.
