Why He Came Pt. 3

1953) As a teacher of language arts, I’ve been allowed to choose novels for my students to read as a class. Some of them I would’ve never read had I not been a teacher and I would’ve missed out on some excellent ones. Tangerine by Edward Bloor is one example.

In this novel, the protagonist, Paul, has something wrong with his eyes; he has somehow become visually impaired (and I will not spoil it and tell you why). Throughout the whole book, Paul makes note that he can often see better than his parents, who seem to be blind to his brother’s character. Yes, there is more than one way to be blind.

Why did Jesus come? Luke 4:18 tells us another reason. It says he will give sight to the blind. The word tuphlos is the Greek word for this impairment and it means to not see mentally, physically, or spiritually.

The statement of the fact that Jesus heals blindness can be translated into English as recovery of sight. The Greek word used here is anablepsis which was often used when Jesus performed the miracle of giving sight to the blind.

The fact that we received a miracle, having our spiritual blindness healed, is another reason Jesus came to this world.

How’s your sight?
