1949) When I read the Bible, I don’t always think about what’s going on in the “background” behind the verses. For example, when Jesus was baptized, what would some of the people there think when John the Baptist said, “Behold, the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world?”
One such thought I had was after reading Mark 1:14. This verse tells us John the Baptist was arrested and Jesus goes to Galilee. I was wondering if there’s the possibility that Jesus went the opposite direction from where John was on purpose.
If one event can be the result of another, perhaps Jesus was illustrating that it is often unproductive to bring God’s words to those who have hardened their hearts.
I do believe God can use anything and anyone to finally breakthrough to someone who has been hard-hearted, but even Moses was told that his attempts to convince Pharaoh to let his people go were limited.
Though I don’t build my theology on these types of possibilities, it’s food for thought.
