1942) We watched a movie several years ago that left an impression on me. It was Judgment at Nuremberg with Spencer Tracy. The Nuremberg trials were part of the prosecution of war criminals during WWII. In this case, judges were on trial for what they did that led to horrific things during that time.
One of the judges (or, maybe it was the defense lawyer) said he was not aware, along with many in Germany, of the atrocities that went on during the war. Whether this is true or not isn’t for me to say, but what caught my attention was simply the word, aware.
How aware am I? As a teacher, my attention is focused on my young scholars on the playground. When I take my little dog out for a walk, I’m constantly looking for dangers, mostly from wild animals. But there is something else I should be aware of and it’s mentioned in 1 Peter 5:8.
Here, Peter tells us to be aware that Satan is around, constantly, and is looking for someone to destroy. I need to be aware. This means I need to remind myself of this fact; being aware is important.
Christians who have not taken this verse to heart cannot say afterward, I was not aware.
