1917) As I have mentioned many times in these minute devotions, I am too hard on myself, but I have learned this is different from having my conscience pricked. I can spend my entire drive home from school thinking of what I screwed up, but if I have said something to someone I shouldn’t have, God alerts me immediately. When this happens, I have a God-given drive to make things right.
A functioning conscience is a good thing. It speaks to me in a way that’s different from self-criticism and I can tell the difference. The hard truth about conscience is if I frequently choose to ignore it, its effectiveness weakens.
Exercise your conscience regularly. It will make it healthy enough to function when needed. Acts 24:16.
