The Unjust Judge

1914) If you were raised in the church, you may have been taught that you have an important role of being a judge. What do I mean? You may have been taught that keeping a tight rein on your moral actions is of utmost importance as a child of God. That every moment of the day, you need to keep all the commands in the Bible or you’ll be judged by God for it.

So, if these things are true, it means you have two judges, God and you. But Romans 8:1tells us a different story. It tells us if we are God’s child; we are no longer judged for the bad choices we make. This is because Jesus’ death paid for them. So now, being a judge isn’t necessary, by God or ourselves. We now live in grace.

In thinking about these things, does this mean we don’t have to keep the rules and commands of God? No. It means we have a new relationship with them. They are guidelines for an abundant life (John 10:10) and sharing salvation with others. The judge within ourselves has been terminated.

If we continue to be a judge (and often a harsh one) with ourselves and others, it makes our evaluations unjust. God is the judge of all people and if we are his child, the judgment has already been settled for us because of his son.

Don’t be an unjust judge, even with yourself.
